The Myazedi, or "Emerald Stupa", people are part of the ancient Danu Hill Tribe and share their name with the Myazedi Inscription. The Myanmar equivalent of the Rosetta Stone was instrumental in deciphering the vanishing written Pyu language.

Hundreds of farmers, each working between one and five acres, provide coffee to the Shwe Ywar Ngan processing station. The use of pesticides is forbidden in the townships so, though not formally certified, the coffee produced is organic in style.
